5th Annual Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Fraud Conference Digital Fraud: Facing the Challenges

September 20, 2017

Cybersecurity and cyber risks may seem like a false alarm, an internet scheme, or even another pesky chainmail floating around the internet. It could be of a humorous gest of the “technology age” to some people that perceive threats on the internet as myths, a telltale of paranoid folks who’ve had too much time watching their favorite sci-fi movies. Sometimes we are too busy trying to keep up with our social media friends on what is the latest trend or what are the online services available for us to make our lives easy and more efficient.

The 5th Annual Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Fraud Conference held on September 13 - 14, 2017 was entitled Digital Fraud: Facing the Challenges for a reason. It did not just open the eyes of the attendees about Cyber Technology risks but also reaffirmed them of how they can be vulnerable online by not being able to secure their private information from hackers. The speakers talked about different categories that are vulnerable to Cyber risks such as IT Auditing, Procurement, Tax Reforms, importance of EMV Cards, and the role of the police and government facilities in combating cybercrime. In addition, we also had the opportunity to listen to speakers from FBI and US Embassy that taught about Conducting Investigations over the Internet and tips on how to do a Cognitive Interview.

The highlight of the conference in my perspective was about the millennials having a huge part on influencing people through social media. They are the usual people who have the guts to speak out on privacy, rights, and even may be a key to combating hackers and spreading cybersecurity awareness. While people may think that the millennials only are the most vulnerable during this period, we should always remember that online bank transactions, billings, and even signing up or logging in on your favorite social media site does not exempt anyone from people attempting to steal their information online.

One of the most prevalent scams that is circulating on the internet is Data Privacy breach. Most information stored online aren’t encrypted well or its either the hackers are just getting better in cracking up data like a virus being immune to a certain type of drug. As Mr. Dante Fuentes, President of ACFE Philippines Chapter mentioned, “Changing and Updating the generation of Cyber Technology also cater upgraded Cybercrime in the Cyberspace. Fraudulent crimes are inevitable as well as other schemes arise.” However, this does not stop people who value personal information as part of people’s privacy and rights. Data privacy is such a great deal of importance on today’s cyberage issue because nowadays, most information needed to be submitted to different organizations, public services, even transactions are online. Usually, fraudulent documents are prevalent when people can easily access your private information online as they can be produced physically by printing or manipulating your information and posting them online for other people to use.

In this situation, DOXCHECK gives the option for people to gear up their online armor and set-up defenses for those unwanted risks online. DOXCHECK provides a 2048- bit data security encryption system that ensures you of being protected against prying eyes on highly important documents that could be easily accessed within a few clicks. DOXCHECK is also doing its part to be legally authorized by complying to the necessary requirements regarding the Data Privacy laws of its clients.
